American Stories takes as its subject the Local History Museum, ubiquitous in towns across the United States. Manned by senior citizens and local history buffs, these museums provide a unique view into the ideological framework of American society. The interest of these images lies not in the historical events these museums depict, but in how these events are depicted. Through tight, careful framing of the image, and attention to small details, these pictures reveal contradictions within the American historical record, and more importantly, how this society chooses to see itself.

This is a work-in-progress.
